Giorgio Girondi, Chairman of UFI Filters and a leading figure in the international business community, has been appointed as an advisor to the Italian delegation to the European Parliament, following the recent meeting of the European People’s Party (EPP) in Italy. This appointment confirms the value of Girondi’s contribution to Europe-China relations and his in-depth knowledge of Chinese economic and institutional dynamics.
Girondi has transformed UFI Filters into a global leader in the filtration and thermal management of batteries in electric vehicles, as well as technologies for the development of hydrogen mobility, with 22 industrial sites, over 4,000 employees, and a presence in 21 countries. Recognised for its strategic vision and ability to forge global partnerships, the Group has developed significant collaborations with Chinese government institutions since the early 1980s, culminating recently in the inauguration of UFI GREEN: the Group’s seventh production site in China, entirely dedicated to environmentally sustainable technologies.
The Group’s sustainable growth, strongly desired by Girondi, will be further enriched in 2023 with the birth of UFI HYDROGEN: the first Italian company entirely dedicated to the green hydrogen value chain. It will occupy 5,000 square metres in Jiaxing, within UFI GREEN, to accelerate the development of advanced solutions for the production and use of green hydrogen in China. To support this expansion, UFI HYDROGEN has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Sinopec, China’s largest oil and petrochemical company, to explore new solutions in green hydrogen and promote its integration into the Chinese energy market. Within three years, this joint venture will expand the plant area dedicated to these technologies to 15,000 square metres.
Hon. Fulvio Martusciello, head of the Italian EPP delegation, expressed confidence in Girondi’s contribution to strengthening the position of Italy and Europe in international economic policy. “Dr. Girondi’s experience in the Chinese market and his ability to build bridges between Europe and China represent a strategic asset for our delegation,” said Martusciello.
A key figure in international business, Girondi has received numerous awards for his industrial influence and economic diplomacy between Europe and China, including honorary citizenship of the People’s Republic of China.
‘After 42 years of experience in China, I will devote all my efforts to strengthening the relationship between Italy, Europe and China, promoting valuable industrial investments and joint growth opportunities,’ said Girondi following the announcement.
With this appointment, Girondi becomes a strategic resource for the Italian delegation, bringing valuable insights and opening up new opportunities for collaboration in an increasingly competitive global context.
