UFI renews partnership with John Newell for the Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship 2025

UFI is proud to announce the partnership with John Newell, British driver of the NWT Motorsport team, for the second consecutive year in the prestigious Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship (ETRC).

Newell’s achievements in Truck Racing

After an exciting 2024 season, which saw Newell stand out for his excellent performances, UFI chooses to stand by a driver who embodies passion, determination, and technical competence. Newell is not only a driver in the European championship but also a successful entrepreneur in the family business Newell and Transport Haulage and commercial director of RTN Clayton Vallely Road Tankers, a company operating in the intermodal transport sector in the UK.

His career in truck racing has deep roots, with over 50 podiums won. After significant experience in the British Truck Racing Championship, where he achieved third place overall in 2019, Newell debuted in ETRC in 2022 and today is a consolidated presence. In 2024, the driver achieved significant results, placing 4th in the final ranking of the Chrome Drivers Cup.

ETRC and the renewed partnership with UFI

The European Truck Racing Championship is the largest continental competition dedicated to truck racing, organized by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA). Each year it generates high media resonance and attracts hundreds of thousands of spectators on-site, blending the spectacle of racing with the promotion of values such as innovation, sustainability, and safety in heavy transport. The vehicles in the race are giants exceeding 5 tons in weight, with engines of over 1,000 horsepower. Nevertheless, environmental responsibility remains a priority: ETRC is indeed the first motorsport event that successfully transitioned to 100% sustainable fuel in 2021, thus reducing carbon emissions on track by up to 92% over the last 3 years, earning the 3 stars of the FIA Environmental Accreditation in 2024. The championship is also part of the FIA’s working group on hydrogen as a future energy source.

The truck with which Newell will compete will be number 18: a MAN Chassis nicknamed “Lagertha,” built from scratch with the help of Stefan Honens Racing Services and MAN, equipped with an 1100 horsepower engine and a maximum torque of 5500 Nm. A true racing vehicle, ready to impress the audience on every European circuit.

UFI, a leader in filtration and thermal management, as well as green hydrogen technologies, will take to the track alongside Newell and the entire NWT Motorsport team for the second year in a row, thus reaffirming the already established partnership that characterised 2024 and renewing its commitment to supporting a team that, like UFI, stands out for values such as innovation, entrepreneurial spirit, passion, and dedication.

Karl Ridings, Sales Director and General Manager Aftermarket of UFI UK & Ireland, states, “We are thrilled to continue this collaboration alongside John and his team, with whom we share a deep passion for excellence and a common commitment to achieving high performance, advanced technological innovation, and maximum reliability.”
